GRANITE INDUSTRY

                 In Western Rajasthan’s Jalore,Jodhpur,Barmer,Pali and Sirohi district granite industry is developing very fast.  Out of it Jalore is the front runner.  The work of making tiles from this stone was firstly started here.  After Indian Government’s geological report publication Rajasthan Government looked into this matter.  In this report it was mentioned that there are areas of granite stone in Jalore.  In 1965 one granite factory was started by Rajasthan Government with the help of mines & geological department in which every work was done by hand.

 

                 In the year 1971 it was undertaken by Rajasthan Industrial and Mines Development Corporation.  By seeing the progress of this institute private sector was attracted and as a result in 1987 this industry was privatized.

 

                 Now in Jalore 70-80 mines are being used for granite industry.  The stone of each mine have different colour here and is of strong texture.  Most preferred stones are Jalore, Noon, Leta, Pijopura, Raniwara, Tawab, Khambi, Dhawla, Bhetala and Nabi.  The stone of Pijopura mine is the most expensive and second most expensive is Gadh Siwana.  The Rate of granite various between 70 Rs. Sq.Ft. to 3 thousand sq.ft.

 

                 All the colours are available in Jalore district headquarter’s 40 Km. ambit.  Black colour is though made available from south only.  That’s why blocks are cut & polished here by transporting it.  There are some 400 cutting & polishing units in Jalore presently running.  Average 8 to 10 workers works in each unit.  Some people are getting employment from Granite mining industry also.   In small units of cutting & polishing average of 8-10 lacs Rs. are invested and 50-80 lacs in a big unit are spent to set it up.  In this ratio some 70-80 crores of rupees are invested here in Jalore in granite industry.
